Rainwater Tanks and Pumps

Poly is the best material for a rainwater tank and Yarrin makes Australia’s best poly water tank

Water tanks can be made from a variety of different materials including steel, concrete, fibre glass and polyethylene. Each of these materials has its pros and cons but it is generally accepted that the best all-round material is polyethylene or poly. Not all poly tanks are equal however, and the key benefits of plastic tanks are only fully realised in high-quality products.

It’s all in the cooking!

Yarrin water tanks are made from food-grade polyethylene, and they are manufactured by a process called ‘cooking’ using a rotational moulder. The raw materials are placed in a mould that is heated and rotated. The raw material melts, creating a slurry, and the rotation, air and controlled heating combine to distribute the slurry precisely throughout the mould. Once the slurry has been accurately placed within the mould and it has been carefully cooled, the mould is opened to reveal a seamless, single-piece water tank..

Built to stand the test of time

Not only are poly tanks strong, lightweight, and durable, but they can be made in a wide variety of colours, styles and sizes, and the addition of UV stabilisers during manufacture ensures that the tank retains its as-new condition for many years.

Easy to handle

Being lightweight, poly tanks are quick, easy, and cheap to handle, and no heavy equipment is needed to place or relocate the tanks. As part of the manufacturing process, Rapid Plas tanks have four moulded-in lifting lugs for safe handling.

No rust, no corrosion and no maintenance

Unlike other materials, poly tanks are non-porous and non-corrosive, and they don’t rust or corrode or require ongoing maintenance. Poly tanks are resistant to bumps and light impacts, and this durability is the key to their longevity and cost effectiveness.

Accommodate natural stresses

Sitting outside, a water tank will expand and contract as temperature changes and the pressure exerted against the inside of the tank will change as the water level fluctuates. Over time, the continual expansion and contraction exploits any weakness in the product and can result in a crack. Again, poly tanks have the advantage of being manufactured in one piece with no seams, but with sufficient natural flexibility to accommodate stresses without compromising structural integrity.

Clean, fresh water

While poly tanks do not leach any chemicals that may affect the taste or quality of the water, they are also not damaged by corrosive water, which makes them especially suitable for bore or dam water applications. Poly tanks do not require liners and, as they block all UV light, when used with a light and dust cover, will resist algae growth.
